Mermaid hues of seafoam green, coral orange and cerulean blue mix and mingle in these handmade DIY bandana accessories. Much like my Crystal Hippie Headwrap, gemstones, crystals, accents and more come together for a bohemian bunch of goodness.
Wear these as stylish headwraps, or even as statement chokers. To make some of your own, grab bandanas at any thrift store (I found a bunch in different colors – the coral one above is actually a red one I bleached) and cut in half so they’re a bit thinner. I folded them lengthwise a few times, making sure the thickness was about 2 to 2.5″ or so (the folds will determine thickness of the band). To get that rustic “worn out” look – better seen in the white bandana below – use a metal file or sandpaper to gently distress the fabric. The thinner the bandana, the easier it is to distress.
Simply sew or glue on embellishments (sew through the entire band, not just the top fold of fabric) until your desired look is achieved. For more info, you can follow my older head wrap tutorial here – skip the first couple of steps because you’ll be using a bandana.
These pieces can get quite heavy if you’re like me and need to ADD ALL THE CRYSTALS!!! – keep it simple with a few flatbacks or cabochons if you’re looking for a lightweight piece.
Break these out for any beach vacation you might be taking this summer. Or, simply wear whilst running errands (like I do) to say the grocery store, Target, the bank, etc, because well why not?
